Herpetic Eye Disease Study – 1 (HEDS-1):

  1. Topical steroids improve stromal keratitis (but not long-term VA outcome).
  2. Systemic aciclovir not useful in stromal keratitis when already on topical steroids/antivirals.
  3. Systemic aciclovir not beneficial in HSV iridocyclitis.

Herpetic Eye Disease Study – 2 (HEDS-2):

  1. Short term oral aciclovir does not affect recurrence rate during acute herpetic epithelial disease.
  2. Long term oral aciclovir reduces long-term recurrence rate.
